Our Story

Welcome to Soci@locals 👋

So, what’s the big idea behind our app? Simple: finding fun things to do shouldn’t be hard. Whether you’re new in town, looking to break up the week, or just keen to meet some like-minded people, we’ve got you covered.

The idea came about after COVID, when I packed up and moved to a beautiful coastal town south of Sydney. As amazing as it was, I quickly learned how lonely it can feel being new in town. 

Social media didn’t help much—it was all endless DMs and faceless groups. That’s when I thought: why not focus on events instead of profiles?

All I really wanted was a laid-back pub trivia night… and since I couldn’t find one, I started my own! In August 2023, I launched a Facebook group called Social Locals – Illawarra. Fast forward a year, and we’d spread to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth, with over 10,000 members jumping on board. 🚀

The response blew us away, but it also made us realise something: people wanted a better way to connect. So in 2024, we started building the Soci@locals app—and less than a year later, 

here we are!

Our mission is super simple: help you find things to do and meet people who love the same stuff. Because we believe when you’re doing what makes you happy, chances are you’ll meet some pretty great people along the way too - my personal experience is proof!
